My wellness routine. Staying healthy when you’re busy with kids.

As Mums we have our hands full pretty much all of the time. Washing clothes, keeping the kids fed and somewhat clean, then add to that a job or running a business or running the household and it doesn’t leave a lot of room for taking care of ourselves (if this is you, check out our post on how to make time for yourself as a busy Mum). Trying to eat healthy can be an overwhelming task, especially when we face the task of making everything from scratch (I’ll pass on that thanks!).

The trick is finding your own version of moderation. Don’t focus on having everything perfect because you’ll just exhaust yourself and end up not sticking to anything. Create healthier habits by committing to small tasks every day. I’ll give you a head start by sharing my daily wellness routine for a bit of inspo. Morning Routine

Every morning when I wake up I pull the curtains open to let in some natural light, make my bed (even if it’s only pulling the bedspread up to give the appearance of cleanliness) and write in my journal at least 3 things that I’m grateful for.

Then I head out to grab my face mask cold pack and pop it on while I stand on the vibration platform for 15 minutes. My phone stays on airplane mode until after breakfast so that I can allow my brain to wake up naturally without those harsh blue lights and I can spend time properly engaging with my kids over a meal. After breakfast we have our supplements and do a few quick chores (this is when my slow cooker is put to work for dinner and washing is thrown in the dryer) and head outside for some early morning sunshine with a cup of tea.

Evening Routine

After everything is packed and set up ready for the following day we start winding down ready for a good night’s sleep. Family dinner is spent chatting about our favourite parts of the day and checking in with one another, followed by a bath with magnesium flakes for the kids (and a foot soak for Mum if you find the time!).

Before bed we lather magnesium oil onto our feet, read a book and pop on the oil diffuser before settling into bed. Sometimes we might add in a warm milk drink with gelatin and cinnamon to encourage those sleepy vibes to flow.

Everyday Self Care

Everyday I do small things to take care of my mind and body including a 5 minute EFT session during the kids’ quiet time, dry brushing my skin before I jump in the shower, maintaining a nourishing skin care regime morning and night and moving my body, even if it’s just a quick walk or a yoga video on YouTube.

Sunday Self Care

Sunday’s are my designated, non-negotiable time for myself. I cross out time in my schedule to have a nice long bath with a hair mask, Levicute face mask (get your 20% discount code here) and it’s likely the only time I get to shave my legs. The kids are occupied by their Dad (or else ;)) and I get to spend some much needed time thinking about something other than the 10,000 tasks that need doing around the house.
